The Center for Democratic Deliberation welcomed Professor Karen Tracy, University of Colorado, Boulder to speak to the Penn State community on March 19 and 20, 2010. . Professor Tracy is the inaugural author in the CDD’s new book series with the Penn State University Press, “Rhetoric and Democratic Deliberation.” Tracy discussed her forthcoming book, Challenges of Ordinary Democracy, on Friday, March 19 and was the featured speaker at a Rhetoric Reading Group meeting on March 20th.
The Eighteenth Annual Kenneth Burke Lecture in Rhetoric featured speaker, Philippe-Joseph Salazar, Distinguished Professor of Rhetoric, University of Cape Town. Professor Salazar's talk, "Managing the Public: Melancholy Remarks on Rhetorical Technologies" was held in Alumni Lounge of the Nittany Lion Inn on Saturday, March 27th at 7:00 pm.

The Institute for the Arts and Humanities and the Center for Democratic Deliberation co-hosted a "Moments of Change" Symposium, "The Rhetorical Presidency of the Early Republic." The event was held at the Palmer Lipcon Auditorium on Friday, March 26 from 9:00 am-4:30 pm.
